We made camp on some comfy seats so we could lie down and have a snooze in the brief spells of quiet afforded when the Spanish couple next to us stopped shouting at each other - they didn’t seem to be arguing, it was just that they were both talking at the same time so had to increase their respective volumes in the vain hope the other would actually hear what they were saying. Anne almost got drawn in until the lady realised we didn’t speak any Spanish or Catalan. The other distraction was Braveheart followed by Shrek 2 on the TV screen, both of which were a little odd as they were dubbed into Spanish - it didn’t quite work. SPOT
The crossing was millpond calm and it was nice to have a few hours doing nothing to recharge after what seemed like three hectic weeks covering a couple of thousand miles. SPOT
We docked at the same location in Barcelona so this time knew where to go and easily found our Etap hotel. SPOT
We weren’t sure whether Spanish campsites had early closing times like the French sites, so rather than taking a chance of arriving too late in the evening we pre-booked a cheap hotel room near the airport, we’ll move to the campsite tomorrow. The receptionist kindly allowed us to park in the adjoining Ibis hotel’s car park for the night, as officially the Etap doesn’t have parking, and I’m afraid to say that we availed ourselves of the McDonalds next door (well, everybody needs a bit of junk food now and again). It was nice to find the BBC News channel on the TV, although the world appears to be falling apart (as ever). We’re having doubts about travelling through Iran and Pakistan at the moment, it would be nice if a day went by without a bombing or riots in either place.
