Up at 0600 to ensure that we were showered and dressed for our 0645 arrival (although we could have had an extra 30 minutes in bed as we actually docked at 0715); we said goodbye to Morné and Catherine (who were in Mallorca to collect some gear they had left in Palma at the start of the season), and drove N609 off the ferry as dawn was breaking. We headed into Palma to find a tourist information centre to enquire about campsites, as the Rough Guide to Mallorca says there aren’t any, which was slightly worrying. As it was still early, we parked up in a side street near the train station to wait until the tourist information office opened. A black coffee from the nearby cafe perked me up, as did the discovery of free Wi-Fi in the station, which allowed us to check our email and sort out some internet banking.

Apparently there are a couple of camp sites, one of which was at Monestir de Nostra Senyora de Lluc, an extensive monastery complex in the northern hills, which we decided would make a good first night on the island before we headed over to the villa which Anne’s family had hired for the week.

We are attending Anne’s cousin’s wedding, to be held on Saturday near Sóller. On the way we stopped off at the José L. Ferrer winery in Binissalem to buy some local Crianza wine - very tasty.

Camping was free at the monastery, but unfortunately we couldn’t get the vehicle onto the designating camping area due to the surrounding fences, so we setup camp in the adjacent car park before setting off to have a quick explore of the monastery before retiring for the evening.
