Tuesday 29th September

Still damp, but we ventured back to Lluc to book our cell there, and then went onto Pollença to explore the old town and climb the Via Crucis (Way of the Cross), a beautiful stone stairway up the the Puig de Calvari (Calvary Hill) in the centre of the town, lined by ancient cypress trees, which leads to the much revered 13th century statue to Mare de Déu del Peu de la Creu (Mother of God at the Foot of the Cross).

Whatever your spiritual leanings (Anne found the statue a little alarming), you get a great view over Pollença and the surrounding countryside, with Península de Formentor in the distance, and the Ermita de Nostra Senyors del Puig monastery on a 330m hill to the south of the town where we have booked in to sleep next Sunday (yes, we have a thing about the monasteries here). The sun even made a brief appearance as we ascended the steps - maybe some divine lighting of the way.
