Monday 30th November – Ephesus to Pamukkale

Before setting off for the calcium pools of Pamukkale we headed into town in order to purchase some of the things Finola had pointed out the other day - proper cheese, butter and probably the best peanuts in the world (perfect with a bottle of Efes Pilsen).

On our way back to the campsite we bumped into Finola chatting to a local shop owner, Ferhat, who translates for her when required.

Tea was produced before Anne popped into Ferhat’s shop to see if she could buy an evil eye charm.  An hour later and out she came with three headscarves - two everyday ones and a beautiful hand embroidered one (you have to splash out now and again).  We said our goodbyes and after a quick lunch at the campsite we left Selçuk, although not before the campsite owner gave us a large bag of satsumas picked from his trees (you don’t get much fresher than that).

It was a couple of hours to Pamukkale, although as it now gets dark by 1700 we were slightly against the clock as it’s much easier to find campsites in daylight (the GPS coordinates from the www.eurocampings.co.uk website are all wrong).  We needn’t have worried as the site was clearly signposted and we pulled in with time to spare.  Anne was a bit unhappy that they only had solar hot water, so we’ll have to see how that goes tomorrow morning.
