We walked the 3 kilometres to Ephesus rather than packing up the Land Rover and driving there, and have to agree that Ephesus is the place to see if you want to try to get a feeling for life in Roman times. We think it’s the streets that really give the place its sense of being a city,
and there are the usual complement of temples, theatres,
gymnasiums, baths, agora and stoa. There are also some amazing terraced houses in the process of being restored to their former glory, with brilliant frescoes, mosaic covered floors and elegant marble columns, allowing you to appreciate how luxurious some Roman home were if you had the money.
The Library of Celsus was also pretty impressive. SPOT
A walk back to Selçuk through the satsuma trees ended another lovely day, made better by finding out that the campsite has free wifi so we could update the blog and check bank accounts.
