The museum is full of treasures collected from all over the former Ottoman Empire, with the 4th century marble Alexander Sarcophagus probably the most spectacular. It’s amazingly preserved, with only the silver weapons held by the relief figures having been removed by grave robbers.
After three hours we were starting to suffer from information overload and could only manage a cursory glance at many of the exhibits, but the Greek, Roman and Byzantine statues were more impressive than those we saw in Italy and Greece.
We enjoyed a lazy couple of hours back in the hotel before meeting up with Mark, Briar, Kane and Fi for another nice meal out.
