Monday 7th December – Patara to Kas

Proper hot showers this morning and another great breakfast before we said our goodbyes (receiving more mandarin oranges in exchange) and continued the short trip down the coast, first passing the lovely looking Kalkan

before reaching Kas, with its yacht filled marina and somewhat ex-pat feel.

We had hoped to arrange to do some sea kayaking as there is a nearby sunken city which is meant to be best visited by paddle power, but being off season none of the local tour companies were offering the trip.  Even a local dog a joining in the midday call to prayer failed to curb Anne’s annoyance about the lack of sea kayaking.

Instead we chartered a boat for a couple of hours, just us, the captain

and his dog,

and cruised along the coastline and across the bay before I braved the water for a quick dip. SPOT

A bit chilly, but not too bad if you kept moving.  Anne paddled her feet, but that was as far as she was willing to go, until the wharf thought otherwise and gave way beneath her, almost dropping her in the water (the metal frame holding the planks had rusted through).

Luckily she managed to stop herself falling all the way, although she did suffer a bruised knee and grazed hand in the process of saving herself.

Back in Kas we bought a few necessities before driving to the campsite, located on the headland with views across the bay; not a bad spot.  A couple of German camper vans were also there for the night, which made us realise that, so far, the only other foreign vehicles we’ve seen in Turkey have been German, except for Mark and Brair’s and Kane and Fi’s campers. SPOT

Back in the roof tent tonight, which was like returning to an old friend.  Nothing can beat your own bed.
