Friday 4th December – Köycegiz to Dalyan

After breakfast in the pension I took advantage of some sunshine to remove the passenger’s door panel to see if I could fix the winder issue.  A quick investigation revealed that the inner sides of the two plastic clips in which the glass pane sits had both broken off, allowing the other sides to tilt towards the door skin and foul part of the door structure when you try to wind up the window.

If in doubt use superglue and gaffer tape, which seems to have done the trick. Part number AWR7092 was not on my spares list.

A 30 minute drive around the lake led us to the Sultaniyne hot springs and mud baths, which according to the Lonely Planet are mildly radioactive; who says were don’t live dangerously?

Only 4 TL each (less than £2) to soak in the 40°C waters, then cover yourself in mud before showering off.

Anne wasn’t so sure about the mud bit (it did seem to have things growing in it), but the view across the lake is pretty special and we both felt rather relaxed and sleepy afterwards - probably due to radioactive poisoning. SPOT

Returning around the lake we stopped at Dalyan for the night, the town that Mustafa the waiter from Erdek recommended we visit.  Several dozen tour boats line the river bank opposite the 2500 year old Lycian tombs carved into the hillside above.  This time of year the place is virtually devoid of tourists, but I can imagine that in summer the town will be buzzing, located between the coast and Lake Köycegiz, with boat excursions in both directions.  We settled into a pension by the river for a lazy evening with our very own balcony view of the tombs.
