Friday 11th December - Egirdir to Göreme

I think it was sleeting for a while as we left Egirdir for Cappadocia, making us actually glad we had a day’s driving ahead of us in the Land Rover.  We didn’t stop to look round Egirdir (sorry Finola!) as we could barely see anything through the cloud and rain, we’ll have to come back another time.

The rain stayed with us most of the way, but had cleared by the time we drove down into Göreme six and a half hours later in the early evening darkness.  We navigated our way through the winding streets to our chosen home for the next few days, the Kelebek Hotel.  After being shown a few rooms we settled for number 20 which has its own outside door, so no need to talk to any other tourists unless absolutely necessary.  Whilst the hotel is more expensive than we would have liked, we decided to treat ourselves.  I think it will take us a few days to find our way around the hotel as it’s a bit of a warren of passageways, but it’s all beautifully done and we’re looking forward to a bit of luxury.  Fingers crossed the weather improves so we can see Cappadocia in all its splendour.
