Monday 28th June - Broome

Breakfast on Cable Beach made up for our less than salubrious accommodation last night. SPOT

We were even passed by the morning camel train taking tourists up the beach.

The search was then on for a proper campsite which, after a false start, eventually netted us a space at Cable Beach Caravan Park, a 450 pitch mega site.  By my calculation I reckon the park grosses about $17000 a day this time of year (not bad if you have the land, which is in short supply as much of the peninsula belongs to the Aboriginals and no building is allowed).  Before the mammoth washing session started, we did a few chores and also found time to have a wander around a nice shopping area and looked in a couple of the Aboriginal art galleries (in order to get a feel for prices as there’s meant to be a good place to buy paintings on the Tanami Road before you reach Alice Springs).

It’s good to have a base for a couple of day as we’ve been moving on each night since leaving Exmouth ten days ago and are both a little tired.  It had also enabled us to give the Land Rover a good spring clean in order to get rid of some of the red dust, which our new and improved door seals will hopefully have more success at keeping out in future (we stuck on some rubber draught excluder type stuff!).  Either that or I’ll have to sedate Anne for the next couple of months.  Remarkably our towels and clothes all seem to have come up clean, which is a minor miracle given the state they were in.
