Friday 4th June - Geraldton

In search of a Michelle’s Sacs seat back organiser (which Anne had spotted in Darryl’s car and decided we had to have), we called into the local ARB dealer which I always enjoy as I get to have a good look at all the off-road gear they have over here.  As luck would have it they had just had a shipment of MSA gear in that morning, so they unpacked it for us and pulled out the requisite organiser.  As they’re pretty pricey we decided to buy one to try out before we splash out for a second.

After groceries and fruit and veg shopping, we had a bit of a wander around Geraldton and visited the HMAS Sydney memorial.  Dedicated to the memory of the 645 lives lost when the cruiser was sunk in an engagement with a German raider in November 1941, the memorial overlooks the town and sea.  The wreck site was only found two years ago after extensive searching, and there remains some controversy about what actually happened due to the fact there were no Australian survivors despite some Germans making it ashore. The weather had turned for the worse during the day with rain on and off for much of the afternoon, and Anne feared for our bedding which had been washed and hung out to dry before we left the campsite.  By some freak of nature it must not have been raining over the washing line and the bedding was almost dry, so we rescued it from the open and hung it under the roof tent whilst we went off to cook a nice piece of rump steak on the BBQ in order to test out our spatula.  We’re pleased to let you know that it performed without a problem and steak, potato slices, mushrooms, onions and tomatoes proved no match for its flipping ability.
