Friday 11th June - Cape Peron to Canarvon

It was moving on day for us and the NSW crew, and as we were all heading to Canarvon (as Iain’s wife was flying in there to join them) we decided to convoy together.  Iain actually left early as he wanted to make himself “beautiful” for his wife, but the rest of us had a more leisurely start and stopped in Dehman for mid-morning coffee and cake.  It was after a visit to the bakery that Ted lost the clutch on his Toyota Series 80 (who says Toyotas never break down), and he limped to the local garage to see if they could help.  Unfortunately new master and clutch cylinders were required which would have to come up from Geraldton overnight.  Ted and Judy therefore decided to stay at a hotel in Denham for the night whilst the rest of us carried on to meet Iain in Canarvon.

The 300km from Denham to Canarvon rates highly on the boring road stakes, and the only thing we found to chat to Scott about on the UHF radio, who was following behind in his rather cool Series 40 Land Cruiser, was the various road kill we passed and the impressive eagles feasting on the remains.

About four hours later we pulled into the Wintersun Caravan Park which Iain had selected as the best of the four in Canarvon.  Showers were enjoyed by all and we cooked sausages and various vegetables on the BBQ for ourselves and Scott (as all Scott’s food was in Ted’s trailer which was stuck in Denham until the vehicle was fixed).
