Wednesday 30th June - Broome

What’s going on, it’s raining!  We were assured that Broome would have nothing but blue skies and sun until November.  It certainly caught the locals off guard, although to be honest we were quite glad of the lower temperatures (as, despite the Coles magazine which we pictured a few days ago exhorting people to “Come in from the cold”, the temperature is generally in the low 30s).  When I say rain, it totalled less than 1mm during the day so it wasn’t exactly a downpour, and it didn’t stop us having a wander along the jetty which is a great viewpoint for the contrast of brilliant turquoise waters against the bright red coastline. SPOT

We also had a mooch around Chinatown with its hundred year old buildings which now contain various boutique shops.

150 litres of diesel filled our tanks and jerry cans in preparation for our couple of weeks exploring the Kimberley along the 4WD Gibb River Road, which, along with a food shop yesterday, has filled the Land Rover.

A BBQ at Fi and Kane’s was a lovely end to our time in Broome, and we’re a little sorry to have to leave tomorrow as we would have liked to have had more time to enjoy Cable Beach and we didn’t get to go to Sun Pictures, the world’s oldest running outdoor cinema.  Next time.
