Tuesday 13th July - Kununurra to Spring Creek Rest Stop

Why do some people in campsites get up at 4:30am, and why do they then think it’s OK to bang around and wake up their neighbours? We generally get up about 6:00am (you’ve got to make the most of the daylight hours in these winter months!) and reckon that’s early enough, so please take note other campsite people.

We were delayed over breakfast when campers kept coming over to say that they saw us at various places on the Gibb River Road and to ask about the vehicle; you cannot really travel discreetly in a Camel Trophy Land Rover, especially one with UK plates. We therefore had to wait for our campsite treat, raisin toast, which makes a nice change from our normal breakfast of cereals and fruit (the latter being a lot easier to sort out when on the road as we have no toaster).

A walk around what is known locally as the mini Bungle Bungles, but is actually called Hidden Valley National Park, wetted our appetite for the real thing,

so after a quick drive up to the lookout at Kelly’s Knob (not a made up name!) SPOT

we left Kununurra for the 250km journey south to the turn off to Purnululu National Park and a conveniently located rest stop.

We’ll be heading into the park first thing tomorrow, but hopefully not at 4:30am. SPOT
