We’d been told to wait for the logistics company to call about the Land Rover, so when our Australian mobile phone went as we were driving back into Kings Park, we were a little disappointed it was only Nic, my brother, calling to say hello. Still, it was nice he called, and Anne did the talking as I was driving.
We joined the 10am guided tour of the Botanic Gardens with an Australian couple on holiday from Adelaide (about the first actual Australians we’d met, as almost everybody in Fremantle appears to be foreign). We spent a very enjoyable couple of hours being shown some of the plants and trees of Western Australia,
although I’m not sure I’ll remember the difference between a tuart and a marri tree, although the Cricket Ball Hakea is more distinctive.
We succumbed to eating lunch in the car as the morning was cloudy and it was almost cold (we must be acclimatising)! Luckily the afternoon brightened up and I could put my shorts back on.
A call from the logistics company gave us the good news that they would be picking up our container this afternoon, but unpacking would have to wait until tomorrow. We popped back to the house in order to lookup the AQIS inspection order number so that we could book the inspection, which unfortunately won’t be until Wednesday morning (they couldn’t do Tuesday afternoon). At least we’re getting closer and we’ll see our Land Rover tomorrow, with AQIS at 10am the day after. Fingers crossed.
In the evening we attended the monthly meeting of the Land-Rovers Owners Club of Western Australia (http://www.lrocwa.org.au/lrocwa/), where we introduced ourselves and sought advice on where to go to see the best of WA. We met a great bunch of people, and we’ve been invited on a trip to recce an old cattle station about 400km north of Perth at the end of the month. This should give us enough time to drop south to visit the Margaret River area and Albany, before coming back to Perth for the trip. They even forgave us for not yet having our Land Rover to show them.
