Saturday 12th September
The Peterborough LRO show was our setting off point, although we arrived a day late on the Saturday evening. Ben came to find us as the directions to the Camel Trophy Owners’ Club stand from the security guard sent us to a dead end, but Ben successfully guided us in from the spare wheel. It was lovely to gather round the stove that night and watch whilst Neil wondered why his wood wasn’t burning, eventually he realised it was covered in fire-retardant paint, at which point he thought the best course of action was to fill the stove with as much other wood as possible. There was certainly fire, although it mostly occurred outside the stove. Duncan defied the cold and remained in shorts and T-shirt throughout the evening, Ben checked out our list of things still to do and didn’t seem surprised at its length, and Tracy advised us to ditch half our clothes (wise words!).
